Multiple intelligences

To Howard Gardner, researcher of Harvard University, father of the multiple intelligences theory, intelligence is “the capacity of resolve problems or create valuable products in one or more cultural environments. The key of his theory consists en recognize the eight different and independent, they can interact and amplify each other. If one of them exists, doesn’t mean that another exists too. Gardner says that intelligences can be developed and they have genetic component.

All we born with potentiality that our DNA delimit, but that potential can be developed with education, experiences, by the environment, etc. To date, Howard Gardner and his team at Harvard University have identified eight different intelligences:

  • Musical-rhythmic and harmonic

  • Visual-spatial

  • Verbal-linguistic

  • Logical-mathematical

  • Bodily-kinesthetic

  • Interpersonal

  • Intrapersonal

  • Naturalistc

There are the traits of multiple intelligences

-Each intelligence is accompanied by his memory.

-All individuals possess each of the intelligences in several degrees.

-The intelligences are combined with each other in each individual in a peculiar way.

-Each intelligence is based on a biological potential to which we add environmental, cultural and historical factors.

-The environment plays a key role in reaching the degree intelligences.

-Period of 2 to 6 years is of great importance in the development of intelligence.

-Iimportance of discovering the intelligence levels of students to encourage and achieve growth.
